Buddy (male-presenting; 20s/30s)
Voice part: Tenor (to C5)
Intimacy requirements: holding hands, hugging, kissing, physical affection, partner dancing
– The endearing, earnest heart of the story. The embodiment of joy and Christmas cheer. While Buddy is often perplexed by the world outside the North Pole, it is important that he is not juvenile. He is an adult, but one raised by Santa and the elves — he sees the world through Christmas-colored glasses and brings joy to (almost) everyone he meets. The role of Buddy requires a triple-threat performer who can sing, dance, and act his way through the entire show!
Walter (male-presenting; 40s+)
Voice part: Baritone (character singing)
Intimacy requirements: holding hands, hugging, physical affection
– Buddy’s biological father. A workaholic, tense, and joyous man. As the story progresses, we see his softer side and watch him transform into a loving family man.

Santa (male-presenting; 40s+)

Voice part: Baritone
– Buddy’s adopted father. Serves as the Narrator for the audience. Warm, affectionate, and a bit perpetually perplexed.
Michael (male-presenting; could be played by a performer of any gender — the performer playing Michael can be any age but must be able to convincingly play 12)
Voice part: Tenor or Mezzo-soprano
Intimacy requirements: holding hands, hugging, physical affection
– Buddy’s half-brother. Longs to reconnect with his father and takes quickly to Buddy and the idea of Christmas. Plucky, adventurous, and mischievous.
Jovie (female-presenting; 20s/30s)
Voice part: Mezzo-soprano w/ belt (to D5)
Intimacy requirements: holding hands, hugging, kissing, physical affection, partner dancing
– A sardonic, somewhat cynical Macy’s employee who becomes Buddy’s love interest. She is whisked into Buddy’s world and becomes his biggest advocate. Jovie’s sarcasm somewhat obscures her warm, loyal personality.
Emily (female-presenting; 40s+)
Voice part: Mezzo-soprano w/ belt (to Eb5)
Intimacy requirements: holding hands, hugging, physical affection
– Walter’s loving, exhausted wife. She is warm, kind, and intelligent. She is eager for Walter to reconnect with his family and embraces Buddy shortly after his arrival.
Deb (female-presenting; 20s/30s/40s)
Voice part: Mezzo-soprano
Intimacy requirements: hugging, physical affection, partner dancing
– Walter’s over-achieving secretary. A fun, goofy, optimistic person. She takes an instant liking to Buddy.

Store Manager (could be played by a performer of any gender)

Chadwick (male-presenting)
– One of Walter’s right-hand men. A bit dumb.
